I love to decorate with framed photos and lucky for me I am married to a great photographer. Because of that, the walls of our house are filled with photos in frames, and I love it…
But sometimes I want something a little different.
Something to add a little dimension, color, and texture on the wall.
This DIY book holder is simple to put together and it can hold books or magazines. It’s practical AND cute!
Materials List:
- Wooden craft rings – I got mine on Amazon
- Wood stain – I used Minwax Dark Walnut stain
- I used a piece of leather that I had like this. I cut a strip that was 2″x 60″ If you don’t mind a thicker piece of leather you can buy a pre-cut Leather Strap 2″ wide
- Leather glue or you could use a Leather needle for sewing machine – Schmetz is a great brand for the price.
- If you are sewing instead of gluing use Polyester thread – I like to use Gutermann Sew-All Polyester thread
Step 1: Gather or buy your materials
Step 2: Stain your wooden craft ring
Use a soft cotton cloth to apply the stain to the ring. Wipe away any excess, and let it dry for a few hours.
Step 3: Cut the leather to the length you want. I cut mine to be 60″ in length. I used leather scissors to cut mine. You can also use an Exacto knife and a cutting mat to cut your leather, it will just take several passes to cut through the material.
Step 4: Wrap the leather through the wooden ring and match up the loose ends. Overlap them about 1/2″
Step 5: Use the leather glue just as you would use any other craft glue. Glue the half-inch of overlap closed and let it dry. If you are sewing, sew the strap together with a 1/4″ seam allowance.
Now you’re ready to hang your leather book holder!
We hung ours with a nail and filled it with a few older books that we had around the house.
Get creative and enjoy your new handmade home decoration!
