How to Make Pumpkin Cold Brew Foam – With Simple Ingredients
Strong cold brew iced coffee topped with a sweet and delicately spiced pumpkin foam using simple and healthy ingredients.
Okay it’s September, is it the time of year for all things pumpkin yet? I’m just starting to accept that it’s getting close to pumpkin season. This recipe is kind of my way to eeeeeease on in. Cold brew coffee is topped with a pumpkin-flavored cold foam that will satisfy your pumpkin cravings even on those hot fall days. I know we all think of a chill in the air and a hot coffee when we think of fall, but I’ve had my fair share of heat and sunshine in September and October. Baking in the afternoon sun on the sidelines of a kid’s soccer game, rushing to work in a cute fall outfit only to arrive drenched in sweat, raking leaves, and getting a sunburn…yes these have all happened to me and maybe you can relate. Sometimes in the fall, I’m not feeling cozy, I want something cold to drink in the morning and this drink is a great option! A make-at-home version of Starbucks Cold Brew with Pumpkin Cold Brew Foam. It’s not exactly a Starbucks Copycat Recipe because my recipe uses real pumpkin infused with the flavors of pumpkin spice. This homemade version of pumpkin cream cold foam isn’t filled with junk like the Starbucks version…the best part, is it’s made with a simple list of whole ingredients. I think this cold foam tastes better, it’s also way less expensive, and this cold foam recipe is so easy to make. This may just become your new favorite fall drink.
Ingredients in Pumpkin Cold Brew Foam
- Heavy whipping cream – This gives the cold foam it’s creamy, frothy texture
- Pumpkin spice – For that signature fall flavor!
- Pure maple syrup – A little natural sweetness and maple flavor make this recipe extra delicious
- Pure pumpkin puree – The essential ingredient, and I like to use the real stuff!
Yep. That’s it!
What is Cold Foam?
It’s a soft creamy topping that can be used on top of any of your favorite coffee beverages. Cold foam is nothing more than Starbucks rebranding flavored whipped cream. With cold foam, you are taking the whipped cream to very soft peaks, instead of a more firm whipped cream you would make for a dessert and it sits on the top of the coffee. The good news about that is cold foam topping takes less time to make than whipped cream!
Now, how do they get all the flavors of cold foam?
Every flavored cold foam offered is simply a Starbucks flavored syrup (basically simple syrup with flavoring) with lightly whipped cream. Instead of the syrup, I’ve made a version that uses maple for a natural sweetener and pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice for natural flavoring. You could make other flavors as well using vanilla or caramel extract.
I just use my favorite store-bought cold brew coffee to keep things simple, but I have brewed my own from time to time. If you’re interested, here’s how you do it:
How to brew your own cold brew coffee:
Homemade Cold Brew Coffee
Cold-brew 1 cup water 1/4 cup coarse ground coffee. I usually make my cold brew in quart-size mason jars and 3 cups of water plus 3/4 cup coarse ground coffee grounds fit perfectly in a jar.
Once your coffee and water are well mixed, let the mixture sit for 12-18 hours in your refrigerator to allow the coffee to infuse into the water. The ideal time to steep your cold brew is between 14 and 18 hours. This will give you the best flavor without the bitterness that could come from steeping too long.
Strain out the grounds using a fine mesh strainer.
Storing your own Cold Brew concentrate
Transfer your strained cold brew to a storage container, such as a large mason jar. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. After a week I find that the flavor starts to degrade and the iced coffee won’t taste as good.
How to make Pumpkin Cold Brew Foam
Place your heavy cream in a bowl or a quart-sized mason jar. Add in the maple syrup, real pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling!), and seasonings for that delicious pumpkin flavor. The easy way to get those soft, beautiful, creamy cold foam peaks is to whip the cream with a handheld milk frother or an immersion blender.
For best results add the cold foam to your cold brew right before you want to enjoy it.
To bump up the coffee flavor and to enjoy a much stronger drink, you can make coffee ice cubes out of leftover coffee the day before, and when they melt they won’t water down the drink
The best frother to use to make Cold Foam
I like using my hand milk frother because you can quickly whip up small amounts. They’re fairly inexpensive. Here’s a link to one on Amazon:
You can also use them for making small amounts of whipping cream, dissolving drink mixes in water, or whisking eggs.
