Frozen cherries blended with plain Greek yogurt and honey and then filled with chocolate chips? Yes, please! The best part? This only takes about 5 minutes to pull together! No ice cream machine is needed, just a food processor.
Or maybe the best part is how healthy this is. Full of fruit and protein-rich yogurt, with fewer calories and more nutrition than regular ice cream. Plain Greek yogurt sweetened with honey and bursting with cherry and chocolate flavor is healthy enough for a fun after-school snack but tastes like a dessert and will satisfy your sweet tooth. I think this will be our special after-school snack this Valentine’s Day.
Ingredients for Quick Cherry Frozen Greek Yogurt with Chocolate Chips
- Frozen cherries – We like the organic frozen sweet cherries from Costco. Sweet frozen cherries are very important in this recipe because this is what makes the mixture taste like ice cream
- Plain Greek Yogurt – Fage is a good choice! Whole milk Greek yogurt is great too.
- Honey – for a little sweetness
- A tiny pinch of salt- because every sweet treat needs one!
- Chocolate chips or chopped chocolate chunks – choose your favorite or use whatever you have.
How to make Instant Cherry Frozen Greek Yogurt with Chocolate
- To the bowl of a food processor, add 1 cup of the frozen cherries, Greek yogurt, honey, and a little pinch of salt.
- Blend or pulse until the mixture blends together and creates a smooth soft serve.
- Add in the additional cup of cherries. Pulse until the second cup of cherries is chunks of cherry distributed throughout the frozen yogurt mixture.
- Transfer the yogurt mixture to a large bowl.
- Stir in the chocolate.
- Stick the bowl in the freezer for five minutes or up to 2 hours to firm up the frozen yogurt.
- Grab an ice cream scoop, scoop the frozen yogurt into bowls, and serve immediately.
If you’re feeling really decadent and eating this for dessert, try it with a little melted chocolate shell or chocolate syrup on the top.
How to Store Cherry Frozen Yogurt
If all of the frozen yogurt doesn’t get eaten, store the leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer. It will be much firmer when you pull it out of the freezer, so let it sit out on the counter for a couple of minutes before scooping it.
CAN YOU MAKE THIS FROZEN YOGURT RECIPE DAIRY-FREE AND VEGAN?
Absolutely! Just use your favorite dairy-free yogurt and swap maple syrup, agave, or another sweetener for the honey.
Recipe Variations
- Try substituting strawberries for the cherries
- Dark Chocolate would be great in this recipe if you prefer it
- Try sweetening the frozen yogurt with maple syrup or agave instead of honey.
- Substitute vanilla Greek yogurt for a slight vanilla flavor and more sweetness.
- You could try a cherry yogurt to really bump up the cherry flavor.
