RECIPE CARD

Turkey Burgers With Avocado | Whole30 Paleo Gluten-free Dairy-Free Recipe

Prep Time 15 minutes
Servings 4 people

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground Turkey
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Grated garlic or 1 small clove
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3/4 cup Diced avocado or 1 medium avocado, diced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbs Avocado oil
  • 4 Brioche buns or lettuce wraps

Creamy Honey Mustard Sauce

  • 1/4 cup Dijon Mustard
  • 1/2 cup Mayonaise
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1/8 tsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  • Preheat a medium sized cast iron skillet on medium heat.
  • In a large bowl mix the ground turkey, onion powder, garlic, egg, and salt and pepper. It will be a bit sticky but that's okay!
  • Gently mix the diced avocado into the turkey mixture until evenly distributed but be careful not to mash the avocado too much.
  • Form the mixture into four equal patties. Because ground turkey is stickier than ground beef it can be hard to form into patties. Keep a small bowl of water next to you and dip your fingers in it if the turkey sticks to your hand.
  • Add the tablespoon of oil to the cast iron skillet and heat until it shimmers. Add the turkey patties to the skillet. Once you set the patties in the skillet push down the middle of the patty to form a small divot. This will prevent the patties from puffing up when cooked and keep them flat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes. Turn and cook for another 4-5 minutes until the juices run clear.
  • While the burgers are cooking, mix up the honey mustard sauce ingredients and set the sauce aside. Prepare any other toppings you might enjoy.
  • Once the burgers are cooked, remove them from the pan and set aside to rest. Turn the skillet to low heat.
  • Brush the inside of the burger buns with a little bit of the honey mustard sauce, and place them cut side down in the same skillet you cooked the burgers in. Cook until they are toasted and brown, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Brush the burger bun with more honey mustard, top with the avocado turkey burger, your favorite vegetable toppings, and a bit more honey mustard.

Notes

These are also great on a lettuce wrap, if you want to make this recipe low carb.
The egg is optional, the turkey patties will fall apart a bit more easily without it.
Serve with your favorite burger side like sweet potatoes or oven fries.
